Gautam Adani Overtakes Mukesh Ambani to Become Asia’s Richest Person

Gautam Adani has become Asia’s richest individual, with his net worth rising to 92.6 billion dollars, according to the latest Bloomberg Billionaires Index. The Indian industrialist now ranks 19th globally, edging ahead of Reliance Industries chairman Mukesh Ambani, whose fortune stands at 90.8 billion dollars and who slips to 20th in the world and second in Asia.

The change caps a divergent year for the two tycoons. Adani has added 8.1 billion dollars to his wealth so far in 2026, strengthening his position on the global list, while Ambani’s fortune has fallen by 16.9 billion dollars over the same period. The reshuffle comes amid broader volatility in global wealth, with seven of the world’s 20 richest people recording declines this year.

Among those who have lost ground, the index shows LVMH chief Bernard Arnault down 44 billion dollars, alongside declines for Steve Ballmer, Larry Ellison, Bill Gates, Warren Buffett, Amancio Ortega and Ambani. The swings reflect a period of market and geopolitical uncertainty that has reshaped the upper reaches of the rankings.

At the very top, Tesla chief executive Elon Musk continues to lead the global list with a net worth of 656 billion dollars, followed by Larry Page at 286 billion. The rest of the top 10 includes Jeff Bezos, Sergey Brin, Mark Zuckerberg, Larry Ellison, Michael Dell, Jensen Huang, Bernard Arnault and Jim Walton.

Adani’s rise also underscores India’s growing presence among the world’s wealthiest. Beyond the two frontrunners, Lakshmi Mittal ranks 62nd with 36.9 billion dollars, followed by Shiv Nadar at 70th with 33.5 billion, Shapoor Mistry and family at 71st with 33.2 billion, and Savitri Jindal at 73rd with 32.7 billion. Other prominent Indian names on the list include Sunil Mittal, Azim Premji, Kumar Mangalam Birla and Radhakishan Damani.
