Saudi Arabia’s Bank Albilad Appoints a New Chief Executive

Bank Albilad, one of Saudi Arabia’s listed lenders, has named Bashaar Yahya Al Qunaibit as its chief executive officer. He stepped up from within the bank, where he had led its business divisions as senior executive vice president.

The appointment came alongside a wider change at the top. Abdulaziz Al-Onaizan, who had served as chief executive, moved to become chairman of the board, keeping his experience at the institution while opening the executive seat.

Al Qunaibit takes over a bank that has grown with Saudi Arabia’s broader economic expansion. Bank Albilad runs a network of branches serving retail and corporate customers and has built out its financing and digital services in recent years.

Saudi lenders have competed to fund the Kingdom’s development projects and win new customers as the economy diversifies. A promotion from inside the bank is often read as a signal that the strategy will carry on rather than change course.

The bank’s shares trade on the Saudi Exchange, where the transition was disclosed to the market. Investors tend to watch executive changes at the Kingdom’s banks closely given their role in financing national priorities.
