UK Firm FiveNines Appointed to Steer 20MW AI Data Centre Near Casablanca

A planned 20MW artificial intelligence data centre near Casablanca has entered its early design phase after developer Nexus Core Systems appointed FiveNines Group to oversee the project. The UK-based firm will lead development of a facility built for high-density AI computing.

According to London Construction Magazine, the site will use the latest semiconductors available and follow Nvidia’s Vera Rubin NVL72 Cloud Partner Reference architecture. It forms part of the wider Nexus AI Factory platform, which is planned at 180MW in total and is meant to run entirely on renewable energy. That platform was announced in April 2026 at GITEX Africa Morocco in Marrakech, following a memorandum of understanding with Moroccan authorities.

FiveNines will head a multidisciplinary team responsible for design management, technical standards, consultant coordination, construction planning and procurement strategy. The first tasks are to fix the project requirements, carry out feasibility studies and produce a concept design, so that a coordinated package is ready for talks with the authorities and later permit applications. In practice, that makes FiveNines the link between the client, the design consultants and the contractors who will eventually build the site. Zutari is the lead design consultant, R&B MEP is handling mechanical, electrical and plumbing engineering, and Fonto Energy is the substation delivery partner, completing the core team for the early design stage.

FiveNines Group chief executive Gerry Curran said: “This project will bring together our international data centre expertise.” He added that the firm was pleased to be working with Nexus Core Systems. Bastian Remmlinger, head of infrastructure at Nexus Core Systems, said the FiveNines team had helped shape the design and delivery approach for the Moroccan facility. FiveNines, headquartered in the UK, specialises in data centres and other mission-critical infrastructure and works across Europe and other international markets.

The Casablanca site accounts for about one ninth of the 180MW envisaged for the Nexus AI Factory platform. Several important details have not yet been made public, including the investment value, the completion date, the exact site within the Casablanca area and a timetable for connecting power. It is also unclear how much of the 180MW Nexus target is firmly committed. The project nonetheless fits Morocco’s effort to establish itself as a regional centre for AI and digital infrastructure, and the next visible step will be the concept design and permit applications that FiveNines has been hired to prepare.
